This cigar rating page has been specifically designed to offer
the consumer (you and me), an easy and realistic view of each
cigar as rated by our peers. This section carefully takes into
consideration the construction of the cigar based mainly on the
cigar's draw, and scores the results on a weighted scale from 0 to 10.
This weighted scoring system attempts to place the average, ok cigar
around a score of 5 in each main catagory. The three-dimensional
pie chart above illustrates the breakdown of each rating question
and it's relative weight in determining this section's calculated
score.
To better understand WHY each of these items are weighted as they are,
I will attempt to explain how I derived at the importance and weighting
for each item.
Draw:
When it comes to the draw of the cigar, I have broken down the cigar into
four separate parts: the initial draw, 1/4 of the way through, 1/2 way, and
3/4 of the way through. By splitting the draw into these four catagories
I believe it is easier to tell how well the cigar is constructed from head to
foot. If a cigar is typically very hard to draw initially, but then gets
"perfect", I would like to know this so I don't give up on the cigar prematurely.
The weight of the initial draw is slightly lower than the rest of the "draw"
partitions, simply because some cigars take some time to start to "work", and I
simply feel that the initial draw is slightly less important than the quality
and ease throught the majority of the smoke!
Wrapper Intact?
Nobody likes the wrapper to peel off, break, burn out of sync, or otherwise fail
while smoking the cigar. Or even worse, when taking the cellophane wrapper off!
If the wrapper does not stay intact, for whatever reason, there must be a
deduction in scoring.
